Now they're Apple, Inc., dammit. They make the damned iPod and the damned iPhone. They own more than 80 damned percent of the damned marketplace for digital damned downloads of music and video, and there seems to be damned-well nothing that anybody can do about it.
They no longer need to come to the press and the analysts, as they proved this year with all of their announcements on the Apple campus. If Apple just chooses a date, then everyone they want to see will come running to Cupertino.
The key part of that is "they just choose a date."
This makes a fair amount of sense, and is essentially what Brian Ford argued on his column. Additionally, most users probably tuned in for the "Steve-notes", and we can still "tune in" via the various press events Apple is doubtless going to continue, such as the Macbook event of this past October.
Agreed - good catch spiffie.
