"The .Mac to MobileMe transition was a lot rockier than we had hoped but everything is now up and running," Apple spokesman, Bill Evans, told Macworld. "We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge."
Woo hoo!
That's good. I wasn't really expecting the transition to be easy since this was such a large upgrade. I am still having some issues syncing with Outlook. But, given my past experience with sync software (most of it mediocre), I am willing to be patient.
Whoa...Very nice...That was well handled. Mine has gone fine from ,mac to mobileme and the only sync issue I still have is from Entourage via MissingLink--Windows Mobile Phone. It gets it fairly well, but sure gets the address book confused. However I'll blame ActiveSync for that one....
I use a Palm as the conduit between my work calendar and my home calendar with IntelliSync on one side and MissingSync on the other. If Apple can get the Outlook sync fixed, I would ditch the Palm in a New York minute and replace it with an iPod Touch. I would lose no functionality that I currently have. I would have a great audio/video player. And, I could play Super Monkey Ball in meetings!
I would do all that with an iPhone if AT&T's coverage did not absolutely suck within a 1 mile radius of my house...
Sounds almost like me...Except I decided to add the iTouch as with T-Mobile and having their HQ in Bellevue, its almost impossible not to be in a Hot Spot, so I can always get Wifi around here or find another free Wifi as ATT Downtown Seattle is OK as long as your not in a building, but in Hi-tech Redmond or Bellevue, forgot it, and 0 bars on my sailboat, vs 5 on T-mobile or verizon or even..sprint.
MissingSync and the OSX 10.5.4 seems a little unstable for me and my Time Machine is totally hosed with 10.5.4 :-(
Never tried the Super Monkey Ball, but know a few addicted fans.
I understand how difficult sync software must be to write. I have used quite a number of packages of over the years. All have had their quirks. I cannot even count the number of times one of them thought all of mine calendar events were new, duplicated them and I had to manually delete all the dupes. Ugh. Now, in my case with two syncs, I have twice the quirks. If Apple can get it right, I am done with Palm; they are just too far behind now.
Thru the days of Windows CE starting in 1998, ActiveSync was the number ! headache for people using PDA's, the first Phillips Nino and NEC's trying to get those sync'd would be a day getting them set up and backing the data rate down to a staggering 9.6 kbps RS-232 link....and about 3 options...and B2 was the only vendor and Palm Pilot was the other guy...and Active Sync has not changed a heck of alot....
My itouch is so smooth, except for calendar reminders on the screen are a bit odd.
